I don’t know why space aliens would want to visit us, but it would be fun to visit them!
I was sitting inside the Jefferson Memorial the other day, just watching the tourists come and go, when a couple stood near by and had this conversation.
First she said: But why would space aliens spend all that effort crossing the universe just to come here?
Then he said: I don’t know, maybe they want slaves or something?
Why would such a technologically advanced species need slaves like us? We can’t even get out of our own solar system.
Maybe they’re bored and it would amuse them to watch us stumble around in the dark.
Or maybe they want to steal all our resources?
The universe is made of resources, they could just go next door and borrow a cup.
Maybe we have the one thing they don’t have?
Water, I bet it’s water.
Water is just hydrogen and oxygen. Water is not that rare. Besides, ours is fulla oil now.
Okay, I give up. I don’t know why space aliens would bother to come visit us.
Maybe we should go visit them.
Road trip? Given the best technology we can think of, it would take thousands of years to get anywhere.
But imagine how surprised they would be if we knocked on their door.
The look on their faces. Yes, that would be fun. Space alien says, “Where did YOU come from?”
Kid space alien says, “Hey ma, look, the space aliens are here!”
Momma space alien says: “Ask them what they want.”
What would we want, if we ever did visit another planet fulla space aliens?
I think we’d mostly just want to get out and stretch before getting back in the spaceship to go home.
No souveniers, wouldn’t you want some souveniers?
Oh sure, a postcard and some photos. Maybe a plastic statue of a space alien that’s famous there, with seashells glued on it.
And t-shirts with witty space alien slogans that won’t make a bit of sense when we get them back home.
And plush toy space alien animals with googly eyes, holding signs written in space alien.
And a bumper sticker for the spaceship.
I miss the space aliens already, with their quiet quaint ways.
We should visit more often.
They walked away at that point so I didn’t hear the rest of it. I went outside and watched the sun set over DC.
The memorials are nice with the lights on at dusk. And then the stars came out.
